Myrtle Beach winter rentals are more popular than one might think, and those who have discovered this little tidbit of knowledge, usually come back year after year to have a long-term stay to get away from it all. Snowbirds is what we call them, because they “fly south for the winter” to stay in beautiful Myrtle Beach.  And they save quite a bit of money too! An oceanfront condo in the winter can be as low as $1000 for the entire month during the off-season. Oceanview condos as low as $800! That’s less than rent in most small apartments on the Grand Strand.

It’s important to point out though, that winter isn’t just December and January, but these winter rates are in effect across the Grand Strand from October though March, the lowest prices in December in January. Even if you are looking for a weekly winter rental, the prices are amazingly low.

Keep in mind, when we say “winter” you may be thinking of snow on the ground, earmuffs, and even hibernation, but the winters in Myrtle Beach are actually quite mild, usually a light jacket is all you need.  Of course, walks on the beach are quite chilly at night. But some like it that way! A good trade off for the excellent Myrtle Beach winter specials. Most of the attractions are still open for the winter as well for tourists to take advantage of.

Traffic is also a major plus to off-season condo rentals. Locals agree that from Memorial Day to Labor Day, traffic is considerably worse, adding an extra 5 to 20 minutes of drive time depending on where you are headed and what route you take. Myrtle Beach has millions of visitors each year, and the traffic shows.

Let’s not forget about golf. Summer golf in Myrtle Beach is just plain slow. The heat, even in the wee hours of the morning is quite intense for golfers. The prices hike up in the spring and fall, then drop again in the winter. Take advantage of winter golf rates while the gettin’s good!

So what are the disadvantages of coming to Myrtle Beach in the winter? Well, if you are looking for real estate, the SOD grass around here turns brown in the winter, making it rather unattractive to look at. Even the golf courses have brown grass (of course, the greens are still quite green because of the type of grass.) Is that REALLY a drawback?  Im sure you can picture the grass green. Also, there are SOME attractions that close for a few weeks or a month, like Alligator Adventure, because the alligators don’t like the colder weather.

Another disadvantage is not being able to swim in the ocean.  It’s quite chilly! Like I said, even the walks on the beach can be quite cold. That being said though, the ocean is still just as beautiful to look at in the off season and in the summer.
